LMAA delegates joined maritime arbitrators from around the world for the biennial International Congress of Maritime Arbitrators (ICMA) at its 21st Congress held in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil; the event’s first to be held in Latin America.

Congress took place between 8 and 13 March 2020 and was attended by over 300 delegates in total, with registrations having been received from 29 countries.  Due to the early impact of COVID-19 in Asia, a number of registered delegates, in particular from Australia, China, Japan and South Korea, were unable to attend.  Travel restrictions also obstructed the attendance of some US delegates.

Of the 199 papers submitted for consideration, 110 were chosen to be presented at Congress, of which 95 appeared in the final programme.  These included some 30 papers delivered by the delegates from London, emphasising the pre-eminent position of London as the maritime dispute resolution venue of choice.  Key papers of London arbitrators may be accessed via the LMAA website under Papers & Articles and members can find all Congress papers on the ICMA website:
